See “Quake” Played On An Oscilloscope [Video]

It looks like a bunch of green lines at first, but give it a second and you’ll see the classic game Quake come to life. Programmer Pekka Väänänen has made a playable version of the game for the oscilloscope. It’s a nice throwback to an early tennis game created by physicist William Higinbotham. That game played on a Donner Model 30 analog computer with an oscilloscope display.

Väänänen has posted a technical report on the project which includes some open problems that hint at further development.
