In an attempt to market the PSP to urban areas, Sony has hired graffiti artists to spray paint images of children playing with the gaming system on buildings in at least 5 major American cities – Chicago, New York, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.
Sony spokeswoman, Molly Smith noted – “With PSP being a portable product, our target is what we consider to be urban nomads, people who are on the go constantly.”
Needless to say, there has been a bit of a backlash to this guerrilla marketing tatic.
Apparently, some of the street savvy youths that the campaign focused on did not appreciate being patronized. In San Francisco, critics have chosen to voice their opinion with a spray paint campaign of their own.
