A North Carolina sheriff’s deputy shot and killed 18 year old Peyton Strickland in the doorway of his rental home while attempting to serve him a warrant. Strickland was one of two men suspected of the armed robbery of two PS3s during the November 17th launch. The second suspect was apprehended on the same day without incident.
While no futher details of the shooting have been released, New Hanover County District Attorney Ben David assured that an investigation is underway. “I am making this my top priority. No one’s above the law. If there’s any criminal conduct that can be established, I’m not going to hesitate to treat them as any other defendant ” he said in a statement.
This tragedy represents the most serious of the numerous violent incidents that occurred during the PS3 launch. A rare, expensive, and highly anticipated gaming console mixed with stupidity and greed is definitely a lethal combination.
