Over the last few days I have read numerous reports about unsold PS3s sitting on store shelves, so I decided to go out and check on the stock in my neck of the woods. I visited seven stores: Best Buy, Circuit City, Toys R Us, EB Games, Gamestop, Target, and Wal-Mart (the picture above was from Target) and found nearly twenty 60GB PS3s in stock. That is compared to a big zero on the Wii.
For those of you who are wondering whether or not this is the result of Sony replenishing stock faster, a post-holiday drought, or just lucky timing, consider this – the area I live in is a relatively small market where stocks are low and demand is high, apparently the stock has been on the shelves for a day or two in most cases, and the PS3 has only sold around a million copies worldwide compared 3 million plus for the Wii.
The bottom line is that if those twenty PS3s were Wiis they would be gone by now. In my opinion, interest in the PS3 is waning and they are on the fast track to third place in the console wars.
