Gabe Newell, Marketing Director for Valve, had some harsh words for the PS3 recently in an interview with Game Informer Magazine. According to Newell:
“The PS3 is a total disaster on so many levels, I think It’s really clear that Sony lost track of what customers and what developers wanted… I’d say, even at this late date, they should just cancel it and do a ‘do over’. Just say, ‘This was a horrible disaster and we’re sorry and we’re going to stop selling this and stop trying to convince people to develop for it.‘”
Newell went on to say that the Wii would likely win the next-gen console battle saying that it will probably have a larger install base by next Christmas.
There has been a lot of PS3 bashing since E3 of last year, and I am definitely guilty of taking part in that. Generally the media should be unbiased about this sort of thing, but the bottom line is that Sony has disappointed the hell out of me with their strategy this time around. Personally, I thing that Newell kind of flew off the handle a bit with his remarks, but I can definitely understand where he is coming from on this.
