Virgin GamesVIrgin Games and Game Domain International have partnered to bring customers “A World of My Own” (AWOMO), a new service that promises to become the iTunes of video games.

AWOMO plans on taking the CD out of the gaming equation by offering downloadable games that can be downloaded and played within minutes.

Flamboyant Virgin chairman, Sir Richard Branson noted that “This is a really exciting development for us, as it gives us the opportunity to do for PC games what iTunes has done for music. The GDI technology will revolutionise how the mass market will play games and will give them more choice for less money.”

Indeed, in this day and age there is absolutely no reason why consumers should have to spend extra money for packaging and distribution. Downloadable media is the way to go. Hopefully, Branson and Virgin will be able to deliver.

Expect to see AWOMO in late 2007 “with a large selection of games available.”
