Yesterday Microsoft unveiled the XBox Live Diamond Card as a free perk to all paying members of the Live community.
The card is personalized with your gamertag and it entitles you to discounts from resturants and retailers (which currently include Ticketmaster, Cambridge Soundworks, Timberland and McDonald’s and “hundreds more.”)
The dialogue on the site indicates that this is only the beginning of what users can expect from the Diamond Card. It states: “Xbox Live isn’t going to sit still, either. We’ll continue to bring you new partners and more opportunities to use your Diamond Card.”
To me at least, it seems that the Diamond Card program might be some sort of tie in to the XBox Live Marketplace. In other words, a marketing ploy to associate value with the Microsoft brand – which will carry over into sales as the Marketplace expands to include a wider array of products. Only time will tell.
In the meantime, If you have an XBox Live account – head over to the Diamond Card Logon to get in on the deals.
