Tera Soft Solutions has revealed that Yellow Dog Linux v5.0 will run on the PS3.
From the TSS website:
“YDL v5.0 is slated for release mid-November with support for the Sony PS3 first, and support for the former Apple PowerPC product line to follow. Any updates required to support the Apple PowerPC systems following the release for PS3 will be made available via a free download.”
It remains to be seen whether or not Sony will simply allow you to run the OS without any corporate BS restrictions, but the idea of using a PS3 like a PowerPC is definitely a selling point.
