Best Buy Connectlife

Best Buy is planning to offer a 4 foot square cardboard box filled with everything you need to geek out your home. And by the way, this big ass box will run you $15,000.

For that you get a z560 Digital Entertainment Center (a Media Center PC) from HP, Lifeware home automation software from Exceptional Innovation, one Xbox 360 (which doubles as a Media Center Extender), two Panasonic wireless cameras, one communicating thermostat from Residential Control systems, Ethernet/powerline adapters from Corinex, and assorted devices—five dimmers, five switches, two keypads–that communicate over the powerline via Insteon technology.”

The price tag also includes installation – with the exception of the high-voltage gear which Best Buy strongly recommends be installed by a licensed professional.

For an additional $19.95 monthly fee, Best Buy can also enable users to remotely control the home, check what the kids are watching, and view recorded TV shows (although, there is no sound available with the TV service right now – which is apparently in the process of being corrected but is currently ridiculous. In the meantime, the Slingbox is your best bet for this functionality).
