If you’re sick of the crowds for IMAX movies and rich as hell, you’ll be interested to know that the company is providing the option to install a genuine IMAX theater system in your home for $400,000.
The high-definition, floor-to-ceiling, wall-to-wall, officially calibrated IMAX theater system includes dual 4K 2D/3D projectors, a proprietary IMAX sound system, a touchscreen remote and seating for 7-18 people.
Unfortunately, if you want the secure, set-top box required to play new IMAX releases, you’ll have to shell out another $10,000—plus rental fees for each movie. For $1 million you can also increase seating to 40 people.
This move is part of IMAX’s effort to tap into the on demand market and the pockets of the tiny minority of people who can afford such extravagance. But hey, chin up broke movie lover! Bloomberg notes that a smaller version is also in the works that will run you a mere $200K. Well, sh*t. Let me check the couch cushions.
