When you’re creating an image of Thorin Oakenshield from The Hobbit, the most on-point option is to carve the portrait from wood. See?! It’s funny because his name is Oakenshield.
Anyway, artist James Hance drew this piece onto a slab of wood and then carefully burned the image in and painted it. The result is a majestic portrait quite suited to the dwarf. If it wasn’t for the fact that the art has already been sold, I’d consider buying it to keep in my bedroom. I’d be completely okay with seeing Richard Armitage’s face every single day.
See some in-progress shots after the break.
