ABC Wants To Take Away DVR Fast Forwarding

ABC NetworkIn related news, I hate ABC.

The ABC network has been in negotiations with cable providers to remove fast forward functionality on DVR players. Obviously, this would prevent people from skipping the ads. Apparently, the belief is that viewers are attracted to DVR because of on demand programming, not the ability to skip their dammed Crestor commercials.

If you’re thinking that the removal of FF functionality is unlikely, think again. Keep in mind that cable operators sell advertising too. As ABC President of Advertising Sales Mike Shaw noted, “they are in the same business we’re in.”

On the bright side, if this change were to take place, you can bet that the hacker community will have a workaround spread across the internet within 5 minutes.
