The U.S. Air Force has developed an actual, working stun gun that uses a non lethal beam of laser light to temporarily disorient the target. Apparently, the effect is comparable to walking out of a dark movie theater into the bright sun.
The Personal Halting and Stimulation Response unit or PHaSR is designed to control hostile crowds, guard checkpoints, etc – which is good when you consider the size of this thing. Honestly, if you were to take the PHaSR out into the field some perp would kill you ten times before you were able to hoist this beast up to take a shot.
