If you have a broadband connected Series2 or Series3 TiVo box, prepare for some good news. TiVo has partnered up with Amazon and their Unbox video download service to bring downloadable movies and tv shows right into your living room.
Here’s how it works. The service (currently in a beta test) will allow users to connect their TiVo to an Amazon account where movies and tv shows can be downloaded for prices that range from $1.99 for tv shows, $7.99 – $14.99 for movies, and $3.99 for movie rentals. Once a movie is purchased and saved on your TiVo box, you are free to delete and re-download it at any time.
Needless to say, this is a major coup for Amazon – effectively putting it ahead of services from Wal-Mart, Netflix, and even Apple because it will combine the vast TiVo user base (1.5 million) with strong support from major studios (4 out of the big 6).
