Launchy

Launchy is a super fast, lightweight launching application built for the Windows platform (XP and 2000) that will allow you to ditch your start menu, icons, and file manager. All you need to do is click Alt+Space and you can launch just about anything on your computer with a few keystrokes.

The version 1.0 release allows you to customize Launchy with a sleek Vista look or even an Ubuntu Linux theme. It also supports plug-ins – and the developers are encouraging users make their own plug-ins and share them with other Launchy users.

It looks as if Launchy is the closest thing out there to Quicksilver on Mac OSX. As a Quicksilver user, I can say that having the ability to Alt-Click through all of the files and applications on my computer is a real time saver – I couldn’t live without it. So if you are using Windows, Launchy should be worth a try.

I have recently written a Windows application that is very much like Quicksilver. I have implemented a “Direct Object/Action/Indirect Object” paradigm with a robust plugin architecture. I am looking for Limited Beta testers. If you’re interested, check it out at http://www.rapiersoftware.com.

    Thanks,
