TiVo is finally going to be shipping their dual tuner digital recording devices coming May 1. Since the cable companies are already providing dual tuner DVR’s to their customers, TiVo really had no choice but to offer something similar.

They are offering an 80 hour model that will be retailing for $99.99 after rebates. Their press release says that they will be offering the ability to program the device from select Verizon phones in the coming months. They are also touting TiVo KidZone feature that will allow parents to make sure their kids watch programming that meets their family standards. They offer no other information on the KidZone feature, but sounds like a V-chip like feature to me.

The next product they should offer that users are looking for is the TiVo Series 3 that can record HD content. They did show it at CES this year, but no shipping info available yet. That will give them a directly competitive product to the cable companies current DVR offering, whether it is enough to put them on solid footing remains to be seen.
