The public version of Firefox 2.0 Beta Candidate 1 has been uploaded to the Mozilla FTP site (Click for Windows, Mac OS X (Universal Binary), and Linux versions).
The major new features include a built in anti-phishing filter and spell checker, along with the ability to restore sessions and close buttons on individual tabs. There is also the usual bug and security fixes that one would expect to see with any new release.
Unfortunately, many of the Firefox extensions will be incompatible with the new version. If this is the case, check out gHacks for info on a workaround for this problem.
So far I have found the new release to be quite stable and bug free. The new spelling and anti-phishing tools have also worked out quite well. I wouldn’t say that is a revolutionary upgrade from 1.x, but it is definitely better.
