It took forever, but TiVoToGo for the Mac is finally here – and it brought some weirdness with it.
TiVo surprised everyone when they announced that TiVoToGo for the Mac would be entirely built into Roxio Toast 8 Titanium. The reason for this perplexing turn of events is apparently TiVo’s inability to lock down the media content like they do with the Windows version.
Mac TiVoToGo is comprised of four distinct functions: TiVo Transfer, Video Playback, DVD Burning, and Portable Conversions. The software will run you $100, although there are a variety of upgrade rebates available. There is also a promotion underway that offers a free Glo Remote to the first 5000 customers that purchase the software direct from TiVo.
For those of you wondering why the Mac version is $100 while the PC version is free, keep in mind that the latter version does not include DVD burning or iPod transfer capability. This would require a $24.95 upgrade along with the purchase of DVD burning software. So, in the end, both versions will cost about the same price for full functionality.
