As reported on Nerd Approved last month, Google refused to comply with a Bush Administration request to hand over search request data. Today Google offered their official response on the matter.
The response was issued in a 25 page document which is can be read in it’s entirety here (PDF).
Basically, Google cited the following reasons for noncompliance: user privacy, the belief that the data will not lead to admissible evidence, data would not be relevant to restoring child protection laws, the data would reveal Google trade secrets and proprietary systems, and the request puts an undue burden on Google without any real justification.
For a full summary of the response, check out the Google Blog.
