Google and YouTube are paying off networks to the tune of nine-figures in an attempt to ward off lawsuits and bide time until a profit can be made.
Apparently, the essence of the situation is that Google is taking a “Here is some money. Now don’t sue us because we will share the wealth in the end” kind of stance.
As BusinessWeek points out, it is a little strange that no large programming company has sued Google since the YouTube buyout. Maybe Mark Cuban underestimated Google’s ability to lay down a bribe when he said only a moron would buy YouTube.
