Last week, Warner pushed back the release date of the first wave of HD-DVD movies from March 28th to April 18th. Not surprisingly, Toshiba has responded by pushing back the release of the first HD-DVD player to mid April as well.
This gives HD DVD about one month lead time over the arrival of Blu-ray.
Only three titles will be released by Warner in the opening wave: Million Dollar Baby, Phantom of the Opera, and The Last Samurai. This will be followed closely by 17 other releases that include The Matrix, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Batman Begins.
Toshiba’s new HD-DVD players the HD-XA1 and HD-A1, are expected to cost $799 and $499 respectively.
