Hotel’s High Speed Access Issue

TechNews World describes the plight of the poor, modern day hotelier. More and more of their guests are expecting high speed internet access. So they do what they normally do, and look at it as a way to raise a little revenue. Problem is that the guests are not happy about paying for what they expect to be a complimentary service.

Now, there is no doubt that the $10-20 a night the hotels are charging for the service is not pure profit. Any service the guest is paying for they expect to work 24/7. So there is some cost to have IT on call, and of course the monthly rental of the T1 is not free. Even so, it would seem like they could charge quite a bit less and still make a small profit. The hotel business is all about hospitality and gouging their customers a bit to offer what they expect seems a bit greedy.
