Microsoft has released the full Beta 2 version of IE7 (non-preview) - and you can pick it up here.
From the IEBlog:
“For this Beta 2 release, we’re taking the extra step of offering no-charge phone support to consumers in North America, Germany and Japan. We’re offering phone support to encourage people who usually shy away from beta software to try IE7 Beta 2. We believe that IE7 - even at this beta stage - is a significant improvement and we want as many people as possible to try it and use it. IE7 is feature complete and has been through significant compatibility and reliability testing. People (especially technology enthusiasts) will have a good experience with it. ”

While I’m on the subject of IE7, I came across an article in PC Magazine that refers to Microsoft’s entrance into the browser business as the “worst decision—and perhaps the biggest, most costly gaffe—the company ever made.”
Essentially, the logic is that the development of IE has taken up entirely too much resources at Microsoft - not to mention resulted in the loss of billions of dollars. In fact, the author believes that all IE development should stop immediately.
Personally, I believe that having a foot in the door of the browser business may be worth the harships in the long run provided that the product is solid and innovative. Unfortunately, this has not been the case with IE thus far. I mean, is IE7 a real departure from Firefox or Opera? Was it developed to bring users back to IE or to simply “stop the bleeding?” Take a look at the article and judge for yourself.
