You’d think that making The Avengers 2 would take up all of Joss Whedon’s time, but he managed to squeeze in a little side project while filming. He worked with singer-songwriter Shawnee Kilgore to co-write a 6-song EP of folk songs that they hope to release this year. He first became aware of Kilgore after watching the video for the kickstarter campaign of her latest album.
“One of the cards just said ‘I am learning how…’ and then she flipped it: ‘…to ask for help,’” said Whedon. “And I was like, ‘OK!’ That struck such a chord with me, personally. … I really loved the music and the sound of her voice.”
Whedon was so touched that he pledged at least $1,000 to the campaign. It fully funded and when Kilgore contacted Whedon about fulfilling his rewards, he told her that he had the lyrics to a a song he hoped she might be able to use. Needless to say, she said yes, and the collaboration began to take shape. The first song on the EP is titled Big Giant Me and is now available on iTunes.
