Litholo Hologram Kit: Sorry, No Leia Projection

The Litholo Hologram Kit allows you to make holograms at home. The kit goes for $139 and they say you can have your first hologram made in about an hour.
Before you have visions of a Leia projection from an R2D2 replica, that technology simply does not exist, as the website is clear to point out. You will also need a darkroom to work in. They don’t specify if it has to be as free of light as a regular dark room, but I would assume that the darker the better. The one other thing to be aware of is that you need to use the laser diode or included LED darkroom light in order to see the hologram. Just looking at the film plate will get you nowhere.

Liti is more hype marketing — a bit dishonest, in fact. On their website, Liti tries to compare their kit the “old” way but bends the truth quite a bit comparing their kit to the old, old, old way 30 years ago. Most holographers still make the holograms the traditional way because this way simply makes much better holograms. The traditional way, using professional silver-halide holographic film and develop, is used in kits like the one at holokits.com or the book Shoebox Holography. The fact that Liti posts a picture from star wars (copyrighted!) already suggests that they are more about hype. Believe it or not, I was a sucker and actually tried Liti . . . well, and got suckered.
Yeah, we figured as much. Did it produce anything even close to a hologram?
