Apple’s “I’m a Mac” ad campaign has been one of the most memorable in recent television history. Unfortunately Justin Long, the guy who plays “Mac” will no longer be doing the spots.

A representative for Long confirmed this information saying, “Every ad you see Justin in is for that previous time period only. There’s no long-term deal with him,” the rep said. “Justin’s a movie star, not a commercial guy.”

I don’t know if I would consider roles in Dodgeball, Waiting and Herbie: Fully Loaded as the resume of a movie star, but whatever. He does have a role in the upcoming Live Free or Die Hard with Bruce Willis, which is semi-impressive, but this guy is currently a C list celebrity at best.

The good news is that Radar is reporting that director Phil Morrison and “PC Guy” John Hodgman, are both returning for another round of ads, but there is no word yet on how they will fill the void left by Long.

On a side note, ad critic Seth Stevenson offered his opinion on the reasons behind Long’s dismissal:

Long strikes people as “a smug little twit,” he added, “just the sort of unshaven, hoodie-wearing, hands-in-pockets hipster we’ve always imagined when picturing a Mac enthusiast…. It’s like Apple is parodying its own image while also cementing it.”

He also noted that the PC Guy, John Hodgeman, comes off as the most likable of the two in the ads.

Hilarious.
