I just love when these rumors swirl around. Someone has reported that they ordered the $599 Mac Mini, and in place of the standard 1.5 GHZ Core Solo processor, Combo drive and 60 GB HDD the shipped unit contained a 1.6 GHZ Core Duo processor, Superdrive and 100 GB HDD. All in a box marked as a Core Solo unit.
There are two possible conclusions that could be drawn:
- Apple has upgraded the Mac Mini with no announcement
- Apple mistakenly shipped the wrong unit
While it is not unprecedented for Apple to do a stealth upgrade, I cannot make the rush to judgment that they have done so on the basis of one order. Shipping an incorrectly configured unit happens more than anyone would care to admit, so why assume that this is not just an incorrect shipment? How about we wait to see what shakes out before we jump to either conclusion? Could only be a matter of a day or two before the full story is known. Nothing to get us all in a lather like uncertainty.
