There has been a lot of talk about project “Origami” in recent weeks, and today Microsoft finally put all of the rumors to rest with the release of the “Ultra-Mobile PC.”
“The ultracompact, wireless-enabled PC is everything a full computer or laptop is, minus the keyboard. Weighing about 2 1/2 pounds, the 1-inch thick device sports a 7-inch touch-sensitive screen that responds to a stylus or the tap of a finger.”
Currently, the UMPCs will run on the same software found on tablet PCs. Future editions are expected to support Windows Vista.
Battery power averages around 2.5 hours and the device will feature hard drives up to 60GB.
Working models have been built by Samsung, Asus, and Founder and are expected to ship this April for around $600 – $1000.
