Microsoft to Release IE7 as “High Priority” Update

Gary Schare, Microsoft’s director of IE product management, has revealed that the new IE7 browser will be released to the masses via Windows Update.
Not surprisingly, Microsoft has pegged the release as “high priority” given the security upgrades - but many are arguing that this is most likely an excuse to shove the new browser down everyone’s throats. There is also a concern that a browser switch might wreak havoc for e-commerce websites and for individuals browsing the web during the holiday season.
Fortunately, the update will ask users whether they want to upgrade or not before the software is installed. There will also be a special tool made available that will block the delivery of the new browser - a precaution intended for business users who might not be ready for the upgrade.
Seriously though, if you are one of the millions of people still running the very antiquated IE6 - you might want to give the IE7 Beta a shot. Or better yet, grab the latest stable version of Firefox.
