More Video Content for the iPOD

From Jason O’Grady, “On Tuesday I blogged about options for finding video content for the iPod other than from the iTunes Music Store. I’ve found what may be the holy grail of video content for owners of the new iPod video. is a subscription service that costs US$14.95 per month and bills itself as an enhanced service for searching, downloading, and viewing terabytes of rich media content from ‘the dark web,’ (a.k.a. Usenet). Usenet is an integral part of the Internet whose multimedia content is not indexed by the major search engines.

The magic is that Guba has transcoded its entire index of Usenet videos (more than 25,000 of them) into the iPod video’s 320*240 format, enabling this content to be dropped into iTunes and viewed there or on the iPod video. Subscribers to the service simply click on the “iPod Download” link, download the video, import the file into iTunes and sync it with the iPod. You can even view the video in flash before downloading it.”
