NXT’s Authentic ASS-60AK is not only a video screen, but is also a speaker. The screen is made from Teonex, a fabric that is able to produce high frequency sounds that regular fabric would absorb, and uses NXT’s SoundVu Technology to turn it into a speaker. And before you worry about the vibration affecting the picture, the company says that the vibrations are undetectable to the naked eye.
With the sound coming directly from the screen, it would make an ideal center channel speaker. No word on the specifications of this thing, but if it has the range and power handling to be an adequate speaker for a reasonably sized home theater, this would be an easier solution than that used by the typical movie theater that has the center channel speaker behind a perforated screen. Either the $520 price of this screen is a steal, or the unit just doesn’t have the performance you would hope for. With NXT’s name behind it, I would think it would at least have decent sound.
