Outlook 2007 Performance Disappointing

We already knew that the HTML rendering of Outlook 2007 would be a bit lame, but it looks like it’s performance is as much of an issue. I have read a number of articles describing their disappointment upon loading Office 2007 only to find that their email functionality was horrendously slow. Forever Geek’s article is but one example. I have not seen any real answers to this problem, but it has been suggested that if you work with an Exchange server rather than some other email server, the problems are not evident. If that is the case, that is pretty poor designing on Microsoft’s part.
If Microsoft wonders why Vista and Office 2007 are not flying off the shelves, it is issues like this that are killing them. I can tell you what my answer would be for anyone that asks about Vista, particularly a user who is not particularly savvy. Wait for Service Pack 1. That will address the most common issues. Until then, you are little more than an experiment to Microsoft.
