“Piggyback Bill” to Ban Online Gambling in US

This is America dammit. Forget about baseball and apple pie. Now it’s all about hardcore pornography, mature rated games, and internet gambling. And shouldn’t we have the right to throw our money away on these things?

Apparently not.

Congressional Republicans have succeeded in passing a bill through both the House and Senate that effectively bans internet gambling in the US. Not surprisingly, they did it by attaching the measure to another bill aimed at enhancing port security. Bush is expected to sign the bill into law later this week.

Specifically, the bill makes it illegal for credit card companies to collect payments for bets. With no way to collect revenue, many online sites are looking to pull out of the US entirely.

So, it looks as if we will have to go back to gambling the old fashioned way – at casinos, the track, golf courses, state lotteries, neighbor’s basements, street fights, etc.
