Porn Leading the Way in Digital Video Delivery

While the MPAA messes around with DRM and ruining the user’s experience with digital video delivery, porn company Vivid is going the route that I think most customers expect. They are offering downloads that can be burned to DVD and played in any player. The burned disc will be copy protected, but that is fair.
The porn industry is always on the forefront of technological change as certain groups continue to drive them out of business. They are looking at online sales being able to replace their stores, which many communities are trying to drive out of business with zoning regulations. This forces them to find alternative means of distribution.
The most amusing thing is that this will probably work well for them, with the bonus being that Hollywood may follow their lead if it seems to work out. That would work well for consumers too, because this is the solution that we are all looking for. If Hollywood wasn’t so anal, they would have done this already and reaped the rewards. It is sad that Hollywood will probably follow the lead of the porn companies, but whatever leads them to do the right thing is fine by me.
