Samsung OLED Display – 12 mm Thick

This picture gives you a pretty good idea of how thin Samsung’s 17 “display is. It was developed with a hybrid of OLED and active matrix LCD technologies. Using this method, they do not need any backlighting, which allows them to make it this thin.

The word is that the contrast ratio is only 1000:1. That is not very good in today’s world. But the first application for this may be as a display for a laptop computer, where that will not be a huge drawback (though still not ideal). Also, this is the first model based on this design, I expect they will improve that in the near future.

Have to give Samsung one thing, they are not sitting on their heels, they are out there innovating.
