Sony’s recent griping about plunging television prices is not just sour grapes over reduced profits. Slimmer margins leaves less money available for investing in research to improve future products.
While all of this is true, I am not sure why Sony would choose to make any of this public. Are you as a consumer going to pay a higher price to try to help out the corporation? I didn’t think so.
They can complain all they want, but a free market and competition is going to run it’s own course. As a consumer, all you need to know is that prices will continue to decrease over time, but most likely at a much slower pace. In the very short term, they could even increase once the holiday sales are over. You should also be aware that the lowest price model may not have the features or longevity you are looking for since anyone can buy the components, have them assembled and call themselves a TV manufacturer. Just be a smart consumer by doing a little research.
