Today Sony introduced the world’s most compact HD camcorder – the HDR-HC3.
The new camcorder is the successor to the HDR-HC1, which was touted as offering professional quality without the professional price ($1700).
The HDR-HC3 is a full 26% more compact than the HDR-HC1 (5.5 inches long / 18 ounces) and it is set to go on sale this March in Japan for $1300 and $1700 in the U.S. this April.
According to AP, “Sony engineers were able to make the camcorder smaller by decreasing the size of the lens and combining three computer chips into one.”
The HDR-HC1 was a solid product and a good first effort for the consumer HD camcorder market. Hopefully the HDR-HC3 will build on that success.
