Sub-$600 Blu-Ray Player Coming From Sony: So What?

If you purchased a BDP-S1 Blu-ray player from Sony, be prepared to get pissed off because the company has announced that the $599 BDP-S300 will be released over the summer as a replacement. The new player will have the same basic functionality of the BDP-S1 with a smaller form factor and CD play capability thrown in.
Whoop-de-doo. There is already a $600 Blu-ray player out there - It’s called a PS3.
Seriously, if you are looking to pick up a Blu-ray player now, the PS3 is your best bet. Even if you aren’t big into gaming, it makes sense to get the extra functionality for free doesn’t it?
