A recent survey conducted by Consumer Reports indicated that the best places to find deals on electronics are not where you might think.
Big chains like Best Buy, Circuit City, and Wal-Mart rated only middle to below average on price, selection, and service according to the survey. In fact, no walk-in stores scored highly in all three of these categories.
“Overall, internet retailers received the best ratings, the survey said. Two online retailers — Amazon.com and J&R.com — received the top scores for best price and product selection.”
Crutchfield.com scored high marks for overall satisfaction and BJ’s Wholesale, Amazon, J&R,, and Costco were the price leaders according to Consumer Reports.
“Consumer Reports surveyed over 18,700 readers this spring who bought a TV, digital camera, DVD/DVR player, camcorder, PDA or audio equipment. The survey will be published in the December 2005 issue of the magazine.”
There is no doubt that the best deals on electronics can be found online – but truth be told, Consumer Reports did not mention some of the best online retailers. This is especially true for NewEgg.com. I have purchased nearly all of my computer equiptment there and, to be honest, I would take them over any of the companies mentioned in the survey.
