The Onion Adding Online Video

onion_logo.gif
The Onion has been providing humorous fake news for years, and they are now branching out to internet video. Starting on Tuesday they will be producing two video clips per week. With stories such as “Injured Troops Request Extended Tours to Avoid Being Sent to Walter Reed”, it is humor with an edge.

Probably most importantly, and wisely I think, they say they are going to have “some tolerance” for unauthorized use of clips. They will also allow blogs to embed the videos. They do understand that if a large percentage of their views end up being on YouTube they will have to figure something out, but at least they understand the benefit of being seen. Obviously not from the Viacom mold.

Free downloads will be on iTunes and other distribution deals are being worked on.
