TiVo Attempts To Solve Ad Skipping

Tivo In an attempt to appease both studios and advertisers while maintaining customer loyalty, TiVo will begin offering small link ads that will appear at the end of recorded programming. These ads can be viewed, saved, or deleted at the user’s discretion.

By offering ads that are prominently displayed but “are completely opt in,” TiVo hopes to put the ad skipping controversy to rest among all parties involved. Still, I can’t imagine that studios and advertisers would buy into this given the fact that very few TiVo users would consciously choose to view ads after they spent a good half hour skipping over traditional commericials. In my opinion something like “static” advertisements would prove more successful. That is to say, commercials that show a single image for an extended period of time.

The ads will begin running next week on broadband connected Series2 receivers. Companies like Burger King, General Motors, MasterCard Worldwide, The Weather Channel, and Court TV have already signed up for the service.
