So advertisers hate people fast forwarding through their expensive and usually boring commercials. That is not new, it is one of the reasons that people like DVR’s to begin with. However, many in the business world feel this is ruining the idea of paid advertisements on TV.
TiVo is now trying to show banner ads for the commercials being skipped while fast forwarding…again. I would have thought that with as much trouble as TiVo is having gaining traction in the marketplace, they would be offering more convenience, not less. In my opinion, the only likely reason for this move is to make what they believe is a technology that would appeal more to the business community (at the expense of the consumer). If they have a technology that is preferred by advertisers, then maybe they would have more luck having cable companies use their name brand gear, or so I believe they must be thinking.
TiVo boxes are already pretty expensive, and there are monthly service charges on top of that. What they may find is that the only thing this accomplishes is to drive away more consumers.
