Tivo is changing how it plans to charge consumers for it’s service. They are abandoning the lifetime subscription and offering one, two and three year plans and eliminating the need to purchase the TiVo hardware.
Pretty close call, but I think consumers would rather be able to update their hardware and pay per month for the combined box/service. They still have an issue on their hands since the cable companies are offering their DVR service with box included for only about $5-7 a month. We all know that TiVo has a better package, but is it worth 2-3 times the cost of what we can get from the cable companies? Not for me, anyway.

I would rate this as better than what they had, but still a tough sell. They should have partnered with the cable companies inthe first place, then none of this would be an issue now.The whole story from Tivo is at their site here.
