SonyUMDSo now Target is pulling all of Sony’s UMD movies off their shelves. Seems that the UMD movies are dying a slow death. Chalk this upĀ as yet another Sony developed format that never gained any traction in the marketplace. While maybe not a major event, seeing as how the movies were only able to be used on the PSP, but it does point to Sony’s inability to understand their audience and market a product to them. This doesn’t bode well for Blu Ray, but since Sony has refused Toshiba’s overtures on discussing the competing formats, that leaves the in a win or lose situation, there will be no middle ground.

For you PSP users, Sony is looking to offer new 1 and 2 GB memory cards witha DVD that will allow them to download movies on to their PSP. Having to create your own movies is not an ideal solution, but at least it doesn’t leave you out in the cold with no way to use your PS as a personal movie viewer on those long car rides/flights.
