So you thought moving Windows XP to a new machine and having to call Microsoft to get it authorized was a pain in the ass? Just wait until you get a load of Vista’s deal. The word is that you will only be able to move the license once beyond the original install. Naturally, that is going to severely impact the home PC builder.
Ok, so they are screwing the users that would need to change more often. Could they make it any worse? Of course they could. Microsoft states: “You may not use the software installed ( Vista Home Basic and Vista Home Premium) on the licensed device within a virtual (or otherwise emulated) hardware system.” This does not apply to Vista Ultimate and Vista Business however.
I don’t really understand the restriction on moving the OS to other computers. And while I think the knowledge of the majority base of users will not allow them to change to Linux or any other alternate OS at this point, that does not mean that the future will hold the same. Someone needs to hold Microsoft accountable for stupid decisions like this.
