Walmart Movie Downloads

Wal-Mart is expected to launch their new video and television download site later today at walmart.com / videodownloads.

Wal-Mart does have content deals with all six major studios (Walt Disney, Warner Brothers, Paramount, Sony, 20th Century Fox and Universal) but it remains to be seen whether they can be successful in an already crowded market. With prices for movies ranging between $10 – $20 and T.V. shows at $2 apiece, I see little incentive to put Wal-Mart ahead of services like iTunes at this point.

If the prices come down, I might be enticed to make the switch to video downloading. Just like I’m enticed to go into Wal-Mart stores despite the fact that they make me cringe.
