If you have WinXP and are worrying about support from Microsoft in the future, they have announced that they will now support XP Home and Media Center editions through 2014. They had already announced it for XP Pro, this just puts the whole product line on equal footing.
Being out in the real world and still finding people running Win98, I can guarantee WinXP will probably be around a lot longer than that. With Vista’s hardware requirements being so high, all these lower end computers that will still be around need to run something. It seems Microsoft has learned just how long people will use older technology that still works – which makes abandoning these customers unlikely.
Needless to say, 2014 is a lot better than the January 2009 date that was publicized to this point.
