Scientists at Xerox have invented a re-usable paper that will fade back to white within twenty-four hours after being printed on.
Apparently, the paper reacts to certain wavelengths of light, and by using these special wavelengths, images and text became printable.
“To develop erasable paper, researchers needed to identify ways to create temporary images. The “a-ha” moment came from developing compounds that change color when they absorb a certain wavelength of light but then will gradually disappear. In its present version, the paper self-erases in about 16-24 hours and can be used multiple times.”
Xerox has also noted that a printer capable of utilizing the new type of paper is currently in development. There is no timetable mentioned for its release, but the folks at Xerox believe that re-usable paper of this type would be commercially viable – not to mention extremely eco-friendly.
