MIT Labs has launched YouOS, an experimental web based operating system that “lets you run diverse applications within a web browser.” It includes “small applications like sticky notes or clocks, as well as large applications like word processing, mp3 players, and instant messaging.”
The folks at MIT are quick to point out that programs for YouOS are developed in javascript so users can easily develop or customize their own applications.
The site is currently in an alpha release, so expect all of the problems associated with that. However, the concept is intriguing and definitely worth a look.
