YouTube Limiting Videos

In an effort to stem copyrighted videos being from posted on their site, YouTube has instituted a 10 minute limit on any videos that are posted. They found that may of the longer videos were in violation of copyrights.

“We’re constantly trying to balance the rights of copyright owners with the rights of our users,” the company said in a statement.

Of course, there certainly were videos greater than 10 minutes in length that were not in violation of any copyright, and YouTube has asked anyone who has been inadvertently affected to contact them.

“We want to know how you’ve been impacted by this change and any thoughts or ideas you may have,” YouTube said.

Pretty drastic step to take, but I guess it gives them some time to work out a long term solution. If you were a user that had a legal video that was removed you probably don’t agree, but as long as they come up with a solution in the near future, it was probably not a terrible move for them to make to give themselves some legal protection. They can’t be accused of not trying.
